Different apps use slightly different algorithms to define a "word". MS Word, Google Docs, and this tool may differ by a small margin (usually <1%) depending on how they handle hyphens, apostrophes, or special symbols.

| Count | How it is measured |
|---|---|
| Characters | Every visible character, space, and tab. An emoji or accented letter counts as 1. Line breaks are not counted. |
| Characters (with line breaks) | The same count with each line break counted as 1. |
| UTF-16 length | The length JavaScript and many databases report. Most emoji count as 2 here. |
| No Spaces | Characters with all spaces, tabs, and line breaks removed. |
| Words | Groups of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. |
| Lines | The number of lines, including empty ones. |

As a rule of thumb, a page holds about 500 words single-spaced or 250 words double-spaced in a 12-point font with 1-inch margins. That makes 1,000 words about 2 pages single-spaced or 4 pages double-spaced. Font, spacing, and headings change the exact number.
Clean AI Artifacts removes long dash separators (βΈ»), Markdown horizontal rules such as *** or ---, and extra blank lines that often come along when you copy AI-generated text. Remove Empty Lines tightens text into a compact block, and Remove Spaces strips every space and tab. If you change your mind, click Undo.
At a typical speaking pace of 130 to 150 words per minute, a 5-minute speech is about 650 to 750 words. The Speaking Time number estimates this for your own text.
Standard accounts can post up to 280 characters. X counts each emoji and many non-Latin characters as two, and every link as 23 characters, so leave a little room.
Yes. The main count treats each visible character as one, so π, a skin-tone emoji like ππ½, a family emoji like π¨βπ©βπ§, and an accented letter typed as e + Β΄ each count as 1. If you need the length a program or database field sees, use the "UTF-16 length" value in the details (π is 2 and π¨βπ©βπ§ is 8 there).
