Make a custom video transition in three steps

Give your next upload a scene change that feels like your channel. This free online video transition maker creates a short overlay you can place between clips. Pick a motion, match your brand colors, and download—no keyframes, plugins, or video uploads needed.

  1. Pick your motion

Browse 137 transitions, from clean wipes and soft fades to pixel effects, comic bursts, VHS glitches, and shattered screens. Preview each one over sample footage with synced sound effects.

  2. Make it yours

Choose one of 22 palettes or use your channel colors. Change the direction and speed, then add a chapter title or logo if you want.

  3. Download and drop it into your edit

Choose MOV for your editing timeline, WebM for OBS, MP4 for chroma key, or a PNG sequence. Export at 4K or Full HD, and align the displayed cut point with your cut.

How to add a transition overlay between two clips

Place your downloaded transition on a video track above both clips. Line up its cut point with the edit between clip A and clip B. For transitions that cover the screen, the cut happens behind the effect while the frame is filled.

The preview uses sample footage to show the scene change. That footage is not included in your download. You get only the transition animation, any text or logo you add, and optional sound effects.

If the animation feels a little fast or slow in your edit, reopen it in My transitions and adjust the intro, hold, or outro. Your settings stay in this browser, so you can tweak and export again.

Find a transition that fits your channel

  • YouTube videos and tutorials: keep cuts clean with Color Wipe, Stripes, or Chapter Card. Add your own heading to introduce the next section.
  • Gaming highlights and Twitch streams: try RGB Shift, RPG Battle, Target Lock, or Shattered Screen for a punchy scene change.
  • Vlogs and travel edits: choose Soft Wipe, Paper Cutout, Watercolor Bloom, or Light Leak for a gentler pace.
  • Shorts, TikTok, and Reels: switch to Vertical (9:16), then use a fast wipe, Comic Burst, or Star Spin to move between beats.
  • Music videos and cinematic edits: experiment with Film Burn, Bokeh, Smoke, or Marbled Paint. Transparent exports preserve soft edges and glows.
  • Seasonal and Japanese-inspired videos: explore Cherry Blossoms, Maple Leaves, Snowflakes, Noren Curtain, and Torn Washi Paper.

The 52 textured effects use paper, fabric, paint, glass, metal, and light. Use the search box or category filters to find a style, then make it your own with custom colors.

Match your brand, with no watermark

Your exports contain no watermark. Save a palette with your channel colors and use it across different motions to build a consistent look for intros, chapter breaks, logo bumpers, and outros.

Add up to 40 characters of text or a PNG, JPG, or WebP logo. The title appears while the transition covers the screen, with the hold automatically extended to fit. Use “CHAPTER 2,” “NEXT UP,” or your channel name to give viewers a clear cue.

Sound effects are already timed to each animation. Keep them for a more energetic cut, adjust their volume under Fine-tune, or turn them off for a silent export. Background music is not included.

Transparent MOV, WebM, green screen MP4, or PNG?

Pick a format for the app you use. Transparent files let your footage show through without removing a background color. MP4 uses a solid background that you can remove with chroma key.

FormatBackgroundBest for
MOV
ProRes 4444
Transparent or solidPremiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and other editors that support ProRes alpha
WebMTransparent or solidOBS stinger transitions and web pages; editor support varies
PNG sequence
ZIP
Transparent or solidImage-sequence workflows, including After Effects; includes timing notes and a WAV file when sound is enabled
MP4
H.264
Green, blue, black, white, or customCapCut and other apps with chroma key; use Screen blending for bright effects on black

How to remove a green screen in CapCut

  1. Download your transition as an MP4 with a green background.
  2. Add it as an overlay above the cut between your clips.
  3. Use Chroma key to select and remove the green. Adjust the key settings as needed.
  4. Align the transition cut point with the cut in your footage.

MP4 does not store transparency. Effects marked “Best with alpha” use soft or partially transparent edges; MOV, WebM, or PNG preserves those edges more cleanly. If your custom colors are close to the key color, the tool may switch the background to blue or magenta.

Create a free OBS stinger transition for Twitch or YouTube

A stinger is a short video that plays over a scene switch. Choose a motion and your stream colors, then select WebM with alpha (OBS) to download a transparent file.

  1. In OBS Studio, open Scene Transitions and add a Stinger.
  2. Select your downloaded WebM as the video file.
  3. Set the transition point type to time in milliseconds, and enter the cut point in ms shown after export.
  4. Preview the transition and adjust the timing if needed.

The cut point tells OBS when to switch scenes underneath the animation. It is separate from the total video duration. For details, see the official OBS stinger guide.

Video transition maker FAQ

Is this video transition maker free?

Yes. You can create and download transitions for free, with no account or app installation required.

Will my downloaded transition have a watermark?

No. Your download includes only the transition animation, any text or logo you add, and optional sound effects. The sample footage shown in the preview is not included.

How do I use a transition overlay in my video?

Place the file on a track above your footage and align its cut point with the cut between two clips. For full-screen transitions, the effect covers the cut while the scene changes underneath.

Do I have to upload my videos?

No. This tool creates the transition overlay only. Keep editing your footage in your usual video editor.

Can I export a video transition with a transparent background?

Yes. Choose Transparent, then export MOV (ProRes 4444), WebM, or a PNG sequence. MP4 does not store transparency, so MP4 exports need a solid background. The first MOV export loads a conversion engine of about 19 MB. ProRes is a trademark of Apple Inc.; this tool uses an FFmpeg-compatible implementation and is not certified by Apple.

Can I make an OBS stinger transition?

Yes. Choose WebM with alpha (OBS), download the file, and add it as a Stinger in OBS Scene Transitions. Set the transition point in milliseconds to the cut point shown after export.

Can I use these transitions in CapCut?

Use an MP4 with a green background, add it as an overlay, and remove the green with Chroma key. Align the displayed cut point with the cut between your clips. Available controls vary by CapCut version.

Does it work for YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Reels?

Yes. Choose Vertical (9:16) for short-form videos. You can also export widescreen 16:9 or square 1:1 at 4K or Full HD.

Can I add my channel logo or a chapter title?

Yes. Open Add text or a logo to enter up to 40 characters or choose a PNG, JPG, or WebP logo up to 10 MB. Text and logos are available on supported presets. Logo images stay on your device and must be selected again after a reload.

Can I change the speed or length?

Choose Fast, Normal, or Slow. Under Fine-tune, adjust the intro, hold, and outro separately while viewing seconds and frame counts. Timing steps are 1/30 second for intro and outro, and 1/15 second for the hold.

Can I edit a transition after downloading it?

Yes. Its settings remain in My transitions in this browser. Reopen the item, change its colors or timing, and download again. Clearing browser data removes these saved settings.

Does it include sound effects?

Yes. Each motion has synced sound effects. Video exports include an audio track, and PNG sequences include a separate WAV file when sound is enabled. To download a silent transition, turn off Include sound effects. No background music is included.

Are my text and logo uploaded to a server?

No. Rendering and export happen in your browser on your device. The site uses standard analytics, and fonts are fetched from Google Fonts. Font requests download font files containing the characters you use.

Why will my transition not export?

MP4 and WebM exports need WebCodecs support. Try the latest Chrome, Edge, or Safari. MOV and PNG sequences do not require WebCodecs. If your device cannot export at 4K, the tool tries half resolution instead.

Can I use the transitions in monetized or client videos?

Yes. You can use them in monetized YouTube videos, streams, and client projects without attribution. You may not redistribute or sell the transition files or sound effects as stock assets, template packs, or asset bundles. All included fonts use the SIL Open Font License, which allows commercial use.

Can I sell or redistribute the transition assets?

No. Redistribution or sale of the generated transition files or sound effects as standalone assets, asset packs, or templates is prohibited.

What is the difference between a transition and an OBS stinger?

A transition is any effect between two shots or scenes. An OBS stinger is a short video overlay played during a live scene switch. You can create both here: use MOV for editing workflows or WebM with alpha for OBS.
